Frequently asked questions

What information do I need to give if I ring the school?
You will be asked your child’s full name, their class and the reason for your call: please make sure you know these!

What should I do if my child is unwell?
Please do not send your child into school if they are unwell. Please phone the school between 8:00 and 9:30am to let us know, giving the child’s full name, class, and the reason for absence.

What do I do if I have to collect my child for a medical/ dental appointment?
Please ensure that the child is given a letter explaining what the appointment is, when they will need to be collected, who by and when they will (if applicable) return. We will also need to know if they will miss a school dinner if this is paid for, or whether they will return in time to eat it. Ideally you should have already forewarned the class teacher of the appointment.
Pupils should show your letter to the teacher whose lesson they will have to leave so that they are aware and can ensure they come down to the main entrance at the time required.

My child has left their packed lunch at home. What should I do?
If they have left their lunch at home, please bring the packed lunch to school, clearly labelled with the child’s full name and class. If you are not able to bring a lunch to school, we will never allow a child to go hungry and will provide a school lunch which will be charged for later if they let us know that they have nothing to eat. We ask that parents pay for this meal promptly the next day.

What should I do if I wish to take my child out of school for any reason other than a medical appointment or illness?
You will need to complete an ‘Absence from School’ form asking the Head Teacher for permission for your child/ren to be absent giving your reasons. The Head Teacher makes the final decision regarding authorisation of absence and prior notice would be very helpful. Permission would usually be given for formal educational matters like Music or ballet exams but permission must be sought in advance.

If I need to voice a concern or complaint, who do I contact?
Initially you should always contact your child’s class teacher. If you phone, you may have to wait up to 24 hours for a response as teachers are usually taking classes and often have meetings after school and so may not be able to get back to you immediately. It helps if you are able to give the Office staff some indication of the problem so they can pass the message on to the class teacher. If you have a concern which you feel needs a more senior member of staff, then contact either Mrs Moore (Foundation 1 & 2 and Year 1) or Mrs Garnett (Years 2,3,4,5 & 6) or the headteacher Mrs Brady.

What can I do if my child has lost items such as uniform, coats etc.?
We have a lost property bin in the Keystage 1 cloakroom and lost property pegs in Keystage 2 cloakroom. The first thing is to encourage your child to check this. If the item remains lost, you are welcome to come into school at the end of the school day to check the lost property areas for yourself. If you have not managed to find the item please complete a ‘Lost Property’ slip available from your child’s class teacher or the school office, once completed return it to your child’s class.
Any lost property found/handed in at school will be logged and we will try to match any items found with lost property. Please remember that all items, including shoes and coats, must be clearly named. This would mean that we would be able to return any lost items to your child quickly and reduce the huge amount of lost property not claimed!
Finally, we have end-of-term lost property displays and you are welcome to come along and see what turns up! Any item not claimed is usually disposed of after these events.

Where can I find a copy of the School Calendar?
You can look at the calendar on the school website or the parents notice board.

How do I contact the Governors
These can be contacted through our office.

How can I purchase School Uniform?
Uniform can be obtained from the office. Please hand in the correct money whenever possible.

What should I do if my child has head lice?
Like every school in the country we are sometimes affected by this problem. However, should you find that your child has them, please inform us so that we can notify other parents in the class. PLEASE DO NOT WORRY. There is no longer any stigma attached to this problem. In fact, Head Lice seem to prefer clean heads!

What medicines can the school administer?
OUR SCHOOL POLICY STATES THAT WE DO NOT ADMINISTER ANY MEDICATION, UNLESS IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS (e.g. EPIPENS FOR ALLERGIC REACTIONS)
If your child has to have any antibiotics at lunchtime, you should come and administer them. If this is not possible or if the medicines have to be given at more frequent intervals and the doctor does not believe that they can be given out of school time we will administer them only if you have completed the school medication form with your written instructions on how to do so. NEVER send medicines to school with your child, this MUST be handed in by parent/carer. Only bring the dose required for that day (a measured dose syringe is available from the local pharmacy).

What should I do if my child has sickness or diarrhoea?
If your child is sick or has diarrhoea first thing in the morning or last thing the previous evening, DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL FOR 48 HOURS. It is unfair to the other children in their class.
