Dear Parents/Carers
I would like to bring you up to date with a few things which are ongoing or to be done in the school:

School Kitchen
Starting in April, during the Easter holidays, our small kitchen servery is to be re-fitted. This will result in the whole extension being re-plastered and all fittings replaced with brand new stainless steel units and tops. This will bring the room up to full requirements now needed for the serving of food.
This work will continue throughout the Easter holidays and during the first week of the summer term. This will mean that some temporary arrangements will have to be made to serve lunch to the children for that week. Hull Catering are going to make the arrangements and ensure that the food quality is not affected and that high hygiene standards are maintained.

Collage Entries
Thank you to those families which have created and sent in an entry for our ‘Family Challenge’ – A Winter Collage. The ones received are of a very high standard! They are absolutely beautiful. If there are any more out there that need to be entered the closing date is this Monday, 16th January. Please send them with your child/children in the morning, or alternatively, bring them in at 3pm. They will be judged during next week and winners presented in Friday mornings assembly. All entries will be displayed in the Key Stage 2 Hall.

School Uniform & Lost Property
Could everyone please check that their children’s school uniform items have the family name inside them and that way, should and item becoming parted from its owner, we can return it swiftly.
We have an ever growing amount of lost property and as you probably know, we struggle for storage at the best of times! What we thought we might do in the first instance is ask all the children to have a look through it in class groups and claim anything which they recognise as theirs. After this we will then place it in the cupboard in the front office for you to look through, should you think that any items belonging to you may be there. We will send home a flyer with dates for this event.
Should there be anything left after this, we will parcel it up and take it to a charity shop (deadline for claiming items will be on the flyer).
If you do suspect that there are items which belong to you amongst the collection, please call in to the office and request to look through it, you don’t have to wait until it is put in the cupboard.

New End Of Day Leaving Procedure
As you are aware we are looking closely at our safeguarding standards and because of this review are no longer allowing ‘free access’ to the school at 3pm. Of course anyone wishing to visit a member of staff can gain access through the usual visitors’ procedure of signing in and being allocated a visitors badge. Then we know who is wandering around and who we have on site.
I would like to thank those of you who have courteously followed the new way of doing things and those of you who have passed on your comments to me. There is a mixture of positive and negative comments, as with anything new.
One thing that is concerning a few parents, the staff and myself, is if the weather becomes extreme (remember last year’s snow)and Year 1 and 2, still being very small, end up having to stand in poor weather for a while when parents are running late.
We want to avoid this and are therefore making the following small change to the procedure: At 3pm the doors, which Year 1 and 2 leave by, will be opened and the Teaching Assistants for those classes will come out. The children will be lined up inside the corridor with their Teacher and the new barriers will still be in place to give clear view of access in and out. When the Teaching Assistant identifies the parent/s of a child they will call the child’s name and the child will leave their Teacher and come out to the waiting parent. Should you wish to have a ‘quick word’ with the class teacher you can do so via the TA recognising you and inviting you to wait in your child’s classroom until the Teacher has seen the whole class out safely or by making an appointment through the office. Please do not attempt to talk to the Teacher whilst they have children in their care, as the children are their priority at that time. They will be with you as soon as they can, in the classroom.
As with our first trials, we will see how this system runs and then review it in a week or so. It is so important that we get this right and that our safeguarding satisfies the necessary standards. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Your comments (positive and negative) are very helpful however, so please do not be shy in letting me know if you have any ideas/thoughts on the procedures in school.

Yours sincerely
Mrs T. Brady
