After a lot of waiting, work began last week on the installation of our wind turbine on the allotments. Paid for by donations by Scottish Power and Tesco, the turbine will power heat and light in the greenhouse. It might even be able to power a pump in the newly dug school pond! Last week, the foundations were laid, and now all we are waiting for is the turbine to be delivered and wired up. Then we will be able to celebrate the big switch on!

Following on from the insallation the July  2009 the wind turbine was switched on and is now working and producing electricity. We now have the capacity to power tools, boil a kettle and light the greenhouse. We will also be able to provide heat in the winter to keep the frost off. It has been an exciting project which will see great benefits for the allotment over the coming years.
